RATIONAL
Language is a vital instrument for safeguarding and advancing both tangible and intangible heritage It fosters cultural diversity and promotes communication among cultures, playing a crucial role in the development process Additionally, language enhances collaboration, contributes to a well-informed society, preserves cultural legacies, and ensures access to quality education for everyone Each individual's voice offers a distinct perspective that enriches our understanding and expression of the world around us.
Translation involves conveying the meaning of a text from one language to another, creating an equivalent version that communicates the same message In today's era of socio-economic integration, translation is crucial for facilitating effective global communication It serves as a vital tool for sharing knowledge, promoting cultural heritage, and driving the growth of the global economy.
As a student at the Faculty of English, I recognize the importance of mastering the English language, despite the challenges it presents in learning and translation Literature, a core subject since high school, poses significant difficulties for translators; however, my passion for foreign literary works drives my interest in this field Engaging with diverse literary styles enhances my linguistic diversity and broadens my knowledge With the support of my supervisor, I am confident in my ability to successfully complete my translation project, overcoming any obstacles along the way.
AIM AND OBJECTIVES
- To cultivate my vocabulary, grammar and translation skill.
- To know more about foreign literature styles.
- To improve my translation and analyzing skills.
- To get experience in book translating.
- To help me to know more new words and practice grammars.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The book has 20 chapters and I choose chapter 1 to translate and analyze This part introduces the characters and their adventures.
The books includes 20 chapters but the text I picked out to translate belongs to chapter 1 which is “A Kindle of Kittens” with about 4,900 words.
The text is the first chapter of this book which introduces indirectly about cats and their journeys.
I chose this text for my graduation paper because I thought the first chapter would help me understand the characters and make it easier to translate.
The text I chose to translate in the book “The Golden Cat” is written byGabrial King It was published in 1999.

THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
DEFINITION OF TRANSLATION
Learning a foreign language alongside one's native tongue is crucial for expanding our understanding of humanity and diverse cultures However, the process of translation between languages is complex and often challenging The concept of translation remains a topic that warrants further exploration, with various perspectives contributing to its definition and significance.
Translation, derived from the Latin term "Translatio," meaning "to bring across," involves substituting a text in one language with an equivalent version in another language.

There are many kinds of translations, the most common are listed below:
Literary: A text rich in metaphor and symbolism will impart both literal and figurative meaning and will accommodate deeper and more layered themes.
Technical translation is a specialized form of translation focused on converting documents created by technical writers It specifically pertains to texts related to technological fields or those that address the practical application of scientific and technological information.
Legal: A translation text used in legal setting and for legal purposes
Commercial: A translation text used for a commercial purpose and for remuneration
Journalistic: a special field of expertise, which includes translation for public print and electronic media.
Advertising: a text used for promoting a product or service.
PRINCIPLE AND METHODS OF TRANSLATION
There are some general translation principles which are relevant to all types of translation.
The translation should think carefully about the meaning of the original text. part of the meaning can be transposed.
When translating legal documents such as contracts and guarantees, it is essential to maintain a close alignment with the original wording and ideas However, the inherent functional and structural differences between languages may necessitate adjustments in the arrangement and form of the words used.
Languages manifest differently depending on the context, such as in business letters Translators must differentiate between formal or fixed expressions and personal expressions to effectively navigate these variations.
In general, the translator should not change the original style But if the text is full of tedious repetitions, the translator may, for the reader’s sake, correct the shortcomings.
Idiom is also an important parts in the translation According to A.Duff,
“Idiomatic expressions are notoriously untranslatable These include similes, metaphor, proverbs, sayings (as good as gold), jargons, slangs, colloquialisms and phrasal verbs.”
A common criticism of translation is that it often lacks a natural flow This issue arises when translators overly reflect the complexities of the original text, leading to choices in wording that may not resonate with the target language Such translations can unintentionally impose the thought patterns of the source language, making the final product feel less authentic to native speakers.
There are two types of different methods: Direct and Oblique.
Borrowing: To take word directly from one language into another without any kind of translation.
Word-for-word: To translate literally word for word.
Literal translation: To translate the next exactly as it is written.
Transposition: The process where parts of speech change their sequence when they are translated.
Modulation: Consists of using a phrase that is different in the source and target language to convey the same idea.
Reformulation and equivalence involve conveying ideas in a distinct manner, particularly in the translation of idioms or advertising slogans Adaptation, on the other hand, refers to the process of expressing concepts unique to one language culture in a way that resonates with or is suitable for another language culture.
Conpensasion: Can be used when something cannot be translated, and the meaning that is lost is expressed somewhere else in the translated text
