Hello Everyone, my name is Đặng Vũ Luân Today, I am in charge of chapter …………………………………………………………… The first one, I will introduce of of you about “be supposed to” ,……………………………………………………………… Structure > We have main functions: · Annie and Jack are supposed to bring the cameras (Annie Jack phải mang theo máy ghi hình.) Other people in this situation want and expect them to bring the cameras But maybe they didn’t I am supposed to go to the meeting My boss told me that he wants me to attend In this case, he expected to his boss’ behaviour with gentle way of saying attend the meeting He was supposed to pick me up now but he didn’t pick up his phone That express the unfulfilled expectation, because the outcome is he didn’t pick up his phone  can’t be done ……………………………………………………………………………… Are they the same meaning? I am supposed to: I am expected to something I supposed: I guess, I think, I believe Is supposed to formal or informal? Supposed to is formal, you can use it in an official document, as long as it's not misused ……………………………………………………………………………… We move on to the part 2: was/were going to is used to express things fixed arrangements in the past, unfulfilled plans OR an action which someone intended to in the past but didn't …………………………………………………………………………… I have typical functions with it: I’m going to go the concert tomorrow I’m really looking forward to it Jack was going to go to the movies last night, but he changes his mind jack was planning to go to the concert, but he didn’t go Other ways of expressing unfulfilled intentions are to use plan, hope, intend, and think about in the past continuous and in the past perfect …………………………………………………………………… We move on to the next part Part 3: let’s/ why don’t and shall 1/ we ……………………………………………………………………… The first one, Let’s means I have a suggestion for us let’s if that sentence is negative form We have to put ‘not’ between let’s and verb bare let’s short for let is Is it right? No, that incorrect Let us remember that …………………………………………………………………………… Why don’t: is used primarily in spoken English to make a friendly suggestion …………………………………………………………………… Shall I / we: the speaker is usually making a suggestion and asking another person That formal and infrequent in American English LIKE Situation: You see an old woman is carrying heavy bags Your suggestion: Shall I help you carry your bags? Situation: Your students are very bored Your suggestion: Shall we take a 15 minutes’ break? All of them, that is a suggestion form ……………………………………………………………………… Last but not least, That is could and should ………………………………………………………………………… The last thing I have to say that express the whole meaning of the content in the sentence as I said before And I want you to learn by heart or take note It’s up to you ……………………………………………………………………………… But what are the difference between could and should The difference between Could and Should is that could is used to say about something or some action or event that is possible or has a great possibility of happening In contrast, 'should' is used to say something that is the best to or to say that someone ought to something, and the person must it Here is some difference points we have to remember
