THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
S OLUTION 1
to compile exercises on Quizizz
Through this solution, teachers can better understand the software features, how to use them in teaching and lead students to participate in learning on Quizizz
Quizizz is an engaging educational application that incorporates the concept of gamification to enhance learning With features like customizable avatars, music, leaderboards, and various themes, it creates an interactive environment where students can learn while enjoying a game-like experience (Mac Namara & Murphy, 2017).
The Quizizz application offers students an interactive and enjoyable way to engage with educational exercises, providing immediate feedback through entertaining memes that indicate whether their answers are correct This educational game-based software enhances classroom activities, allowing students to complete quizzes on various electronic devices, fostering healthy competition among peers through a live leaderboard Additionally, teachers can monitor student progress and download summaries after quizzes to assess their performance effectively.
Quizizz is an engaging online quiz tool that offers a less competitive alternative to Kahoot, allowing students to view questions on their devices and work at their own pace, with the option to disable timers This feature reduces stress by eliminating leaderboards unless desired Teachers can assign quizzes for homework or conduct them in class, and the results can be easily exported to Excel, with data automatically saved Logging in is straightforward using a Google email address, further easing student anxiety Quizizz also allows the creation of custom memes and quizzes based on public templates, enhancing the fun with music and entertaining images that indicate correct or incorrect answers After completing a quiz, teachers can access detailed performance reports, analyzing both class-wide and individual student results Additionally, Quizizz integrates seamlessly with Google Classroom, making it easy to distribute quizzes to students using that platform.

1 Steps to organize teaching on quizizz
Step 1: The teacher opens the pre-prepared lesson on the website, clicks the
"start a live quiz" button or assigns homework to choose the form of group or individual play, click "Continue" to get the code and provide it to the students
Step 2: Students open the quizizz software preinstalled on the phone (or go directly on the website), enter the code provided by the teacher to participate in the game on the interface and the music background is very attractive Teachers track the student's participation process through the homepage, which can be accompanied by timely comments that add to the attractiveness

After the game concludes, educators use rankings to recognize top-performing students and analyze statistics to identify areas where students struggle, allowing for timely corrections and improvements.
( Students’ result when using Quizizz application to do exercises )
In analyzing the statistics, teachers can identify that the highest number of students struggling occurs in Q2, Q3, and Q11 This insight allows educators to pinpoint areas of weakness among students, enabling them to provide targeted explanations and guidance for improvement.
PRACTICAL BACKGROUND
S ETTINGS OF THE STUDY
The rise of regional and global integration has significantly boosted the demand for English language teaching in Vietnam Prior to the 1990s, foreign language education, especially English, received minimal attention, with Russian being the predominant foreign language However, the landscape has shifted dramatically, and English is now the most widely taught and sought-after foreign language in the country.
Nghe An province, like other regions, demonstrates a strong commitment to English language learning, driven by the need for foreign trade and access to educational resources Residents pursue English through various educational avenues, including schools, colleges, extra classes, and training centers While English is offered alongside other foreign languages in the school curriculum, it is often regarded as the most significant language for practical purposes.
Despite the emphasis on English learning, many students primarily study the language to pass the University Entrance Exam Those applying to colleges that do not require an English exam often neglect the subject, learning it solely for the final test In Nghe An, students have limited opportunities to communicate with foreigners, resulting in a lack of practical language use Additionally, there has been a noticeable shift in focus among secondary school students towards natural sciences, further diminishing the importance placed on foreign language studies.
Learning English can be challenging for students, particularly those in mountainous regions who often struggle with motivation As a result, educators are continually exploring effective teaching methods The rise of information and communication technologies (ICT) has significantly impacted education, introducing tools such as smartphones, tablets, and computers that enhance learning experiences Recently, gamification has gained popularity as a way to engage users through interactive gaming activities governed by specific rules This approach is increasingly applied across various educational settings, including traditional, distance, and online learning, leveraging motivational factors to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
The majority of teachers at the school are graduates of Vinh University or Hanoi National University Notably, none of the English teachers have had the opportunity to visit an English-speaking country, and very few have experiences interacting with native speakers.
All of the teachers are highly motivated because they neither want to be dismissed by the school nor disappoint their students
Many students from ethnic minority backgrounds in remote mountainous districts face significant challenges due to poor living conditions and insufficient family investment in education These factors contribute to their low academic performance, particularly in English, which is often undervalued by parents who do not recognize its importance in today’s society As a result, students enter lower secondary school with inadequate foundational skills, leading to consistently low results in the General Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations.
The reality, the drawbacks of teaching and using technology at Tuong Duong 1 high school
Tuong Duong 1 High School serves a diverse student body, including various ethnic groups such as Thai, H'Mong, and Kho Mu Many ethnic minority students face language barriers, struggling to communicate clearly in Kinh, which affects their confidence and social interactions with peers The need for independence among students living away from home is crucial, yet few possess the necessary skills Additionally, challenging family circumstances lead many students to feel uncertain about their future careers, resulting in a lack of direction and reduced academic performance This situation raises concerns among both teachers and students.
Tuong Duong 1 High School has been equipped with 2 projectors, 2 computer rooms, and 30 televisions in 30 classrooms The author teaches 4 classes
Currently, most teachers at the school lack specialization in informatics, resulting in a limited use of information technology in their teaching methods Their application of technology primarily involves creating lectures or tests with text editing software, without fully utilizing the additional features available in teaching support tools or assessment software.
Objective multiple-choice tests can enhance students' positive thinking and quick reflexes; however, they often fail to effectively evaluate training outcomes, leading to mechanical test-taking and limited critical thinking To address these issues, I utilize the Quizizz application to create multiple-choice tests that encourage independent learning, self-review, and improved self-assessment of academic performance.
P ARTICIPANTS
The subjects for the study were conducted with 140 students in grade 12 th at high school in Tuong Duong District Each of students owns a smartphone that could access the internet

D ATA COLLECTION METHODS
This study employed three research instruments—observation, interviews, and tests—to gather comprehensive data Initially, observations were conducted with 12th-grade students to examine their natural self-assessment processes using Quizizz, focusing on their behaviors and attitudes during the pre-, while-, and post-assessment phases Additionally, semi-structured interviews were carried out to extract deeper insights that observation alone could not provide, specifically regarding students' feelings, perceptions, and intentions related to self-assessment through Quizizz and how its features influenced these aspects.
Tests were conducted to evaluate the improvement in students' English knowledge after they completed self-assessments on three quizzes Each student participated in three separate tests to measure their scores on the given topics.
‘future form’ with will, be going to, and present continuous with the objective that students were able to understand the of use future forms in the appropriate context
To ensure consistent improvement and minimize the impact of external factors, each test comprised eight questions focused on the same topic and difficulty level Students followed a structured process that included completing the first quiz, receiving feedback, reviewing their answers, retaking the quiz, and then proceeding to the next quiz.
D ATA COLLECTION PROCEDURES
Over a period of five months, from November 2021 to March 2022, I conducted observations of four classes of 12th-grade students, focusing on their interactions and performance Prior to the observations, I administered tests to assess students' scores after they engaged with the material and practiced exercises using the Quizizz application Additionally, I distributed questionnaires to gather students' perspectives on the effectiveness of Quizizz for reinforcing their knowledge I closely monitored individual achievements and compiled class reports to evaluate the average scores following their experience with the application The analysis of the students' questionnaires was performed using a specific formula to quantify their feedback.
After calculating the percentage of the students’ questionnaire responses, the researcher consulted the result to know the students' responses with the following criteria of score interpretation
In-depth interviews were conducted with students from four classes to gather insights on their experiences using Quizizz during English lessons Each interview featured six questions aimed at exploring learners' attitudes and perceptions of the Quizizz games on mobile devices.
I conducted interviews with enthusiastic students at various locations within the school, including during break time, after classes, and at the English club Their active participation ensured they felt no anxiety while answering the questions.
The questionnaire aimed to assess students' perceptions of Quizizz's effectiveness, specifically examining the impact of Live Quizizz games on learner engagement and knowledge achievement Comprising 10 well-structured questions, the survey was designed with a clear purpose, prompting students to select appropriate responses Conducted in-class, the questionnaire did not require a covering letter or postal distribution.
