HISTORY OF THE DARK ANGELS

Using the Rock as their mobile base, the Dark Angels have crisscrossed the galaxy bringing war to the Emperor's foes.

Few Space Marine Chapters can match their roll call of victories - for they have fought in the forefront of many of the most crucial battles in the Imperium's history. For the Dark Angels, however, it is never enough - they remain the Unforgiven.

When the Dark Angels achieve a battlefield objective, they leave to seek their next engagement. They do not rebuild or perform humanitarian missions - they are the Emperor's warriors, made for war. They simply reclaim their stricken comrades and any prisoners they have taken before returning to their orbiting fleet.

As a rule, the secretive Dark Angels do not share battle records. They comply with the letter of the law for required reports, yet their communications are minimal. The Imperium's knowledge of the Chapter's plans and actions

1 The Search for Recruiting Worlds

Necessity demands that the Dark Angels find a new recruiting world, but at this date, a conscious decision is made to establish many. This plan is agreed by the High Lords of Terra as it allows for contingencies and preserves genetic diversity. For the Dark Angels, it allows a mantle of secrecy, for no one is entirely sure of the number of recruiting worlds or of how many recruits are taken into the Rock.

Rumours lead the Dark Angels, with two of their Successor Chapters, to embark upon a harrowing campaign. In hindsight it is easy to see that the Ruinous Powers baited the Dark Angels, luring them into the swirling edge of the Eye of Terror. Only the Dark Angels' irrepressible resolve allows them to escape, and they pay a high price in casualties.

There are few accurate records of this time, as tl1e newborn Imperium of Mankind struggles to survive in the aftermath

of the Horus Heresy.

are vague, on par with only the Space Wolves, who are infamous for the utter disregard they show the bureaucrats of the Adeptus Administratum. The Imperium gleans much of its knowledge of the Dark Angels from outside reports, such as those submitted by Planetary Governors and Imperial Commanders who fought alongside them, or from the Inquisitors sent to inspect them.

With triumphs too numerous to list in full, the events detailed here are those battles that the Dark Angels themselves consider worthy of special commemoration.

As the Imperium tightens the scrutiny under which citizen and soldier alike operate, the Dark Angels find themselves increasingly under observation. Only their flawless battle record and eagerness to combat the Imperium's enemies allows the Chapter to continue along its often secretive and

While leading his Chapter to victory in the Blood pox Campaign against the Death Guard and the Brotherhood of Plague, the twelfth Supreme Grand Master of the Dark Angels, the esteemed Armaros conuãacts the loathsome pox.

His rapid deformation convinces the Supreme Grand Master to immediately pass the Lion Helm to his successor. To ensure the contamination does not spread, Armaros voluntarily enters the Rock's reactor chamber and is wholly consumed.

Inquisitor Halleck, after many decades tracking degenerate in wilderness space, captures a mysterious heretic known only as the Angel of Truth. The last broadcast by Halleck' ship claims the prisoner has broken under questioning and revealed deep-rooted heresy. While returning to Terra

\vith his revelations, the Inquisitor is beset by an unknown enemy. The only Imperial force in the vicinity is the Dark Angels' strike cruiser, Black Sword of Vengeance. They report no sign of the Inquisitor, his vessel or the prisoner.

104.M35 The Enemy Unmasked

The Dark Angels, following Cypher's trail, are led to believe that at least one member of the newly declared Ur-Council of Nova Terra is a Fallen Dark Angel.

In a daring raid, a Ravenwing strike force lands upon Nova Terra but fails to secure anr prisoners.

Segmentum Pacificus is the centre of unrest and the Inner Circle continues to follow the many clues that have led them deep into the internecine fighting.

Known to the Dark Angels as the Hrakon Campaign, they systematically seek out Obidiah Hrakon, the despot ruler of an upstart planet, which has been pivotal in its support of Nova Te1Ta. In the Veiled Region, the Dark Angels finally corner Hrakon, who takes refuge on a piratical port world. Seeking to ensure that none escape, tl1e Dark Angels blockade the planet and unleash the entire Death\dng. Deploying in sequential teleportations, the Terminators prosecute an epic slaughter until only a single foe is left alive - Obidiah Hrakon - once a standard bearer for the Dark Angels Legion. Refusing to give up, Obidial1 is subdued after a duel with the Mastel- of the Deathwing and is transported back to the Rock. His death is nor an easy one.

975.M35 Brother Against Brother

Still operating largely in Segmentum Pacificus, the Dark Angels take part in the fierce fighting of the Cataclysm of Souls. In addition to putting down those who reject the High Lords of Tenãa and the Ecclesiarchy, they search for signs of the Fallen. It is a civil war the like of which the Imperium has

Following a mysterious trail, the Dark Angels and several of their Successor Chapters begin a 30-year campaign that uproots hidden cults and conupt officials across three sectors. The battles against this network of subversion bring much suffering to the Rebulus system before the corruption is finally subdued, culminating in the destruction of the artificial moons surrounding the planet Ixx.

673.M36 Siege of Dominus Prinle

The Dark Angels and Angels of Vengeance both deploy their entire lst Companies to end the five year deadlock against a rebel tyrant. Nigh on two hundred Terminators crack open the 'unassailable' fortress and massacre the traitors, save for those few who are taken to the Rock for questioning.

This is an era riven by civil wa1 as the Imperium withstands both the Nova Terra Interregnum and the dissent known as the Age of Apostasy. Many of the Fallen surface during this time, often as the leaders inciting the many rebellions. The Dark Angels and their Successor Chapters cross the galaxy in

countless actions, ruthlessly hunting down cult leaders.

The battle honours of the 3rd Company are many, but few evoke more hard-won pride than the lone ribbon that commemorates the battle for Kurin 's Acropolis on Persembe II. After making a daring Drop Pod assault to create a cordon between the acropolis and the encroaching horde of Daemons and cultists, the Dark Angels slay the vile sorcerer, High Anarchist Potchek, to end the threat.

An Eldar fleet threatens to destroy the massive space docks of Midpoint in the Argonnes sector. The Dark Angels were a crucial part of the Altid Crusade, a decade long campaign that ended on the colony world of Altid 1 56. Three Grand Masters of the Ravenwing are lost in a single year, each slain while in pursuit of a group of Fallen Dark Angels. This marks the beginning of an unprecedented two-decade period where the Ravenwing has no Grand Master. Over three decades, the Dark Angels are tasked with suppressing the civil wars that are ongoing across many of the territories gained during the Macharian Conquests.
