1.7 The reality and Survey about the current reality of the problems:

At my school, the challenges exist within the practical situation at Nguyen Duc Mau High School that may pose obstacles to the study's implementation One such challenge is the potential difficulty students may face in communication skills If students exhibit weaknesses in verbal expression or active listening, the intended outcomes of the study, particularly the development of communication skills, may be hindered This could necessitate additional support and tailored interventions to address individual student needs And I have carried out a survey (by teachers and students in my school) to know more the reality of our research

Trang 10

The aim of the survey: To investigate the reality of the reseach by asking teachers and students about the teaching and learning of Getting started From

the results of the survey, I know the reality of teaching and learning and I will work out some solutions to deal with the challenges that teachers and students

face up to when teaching and learning

Object-oriented survey: 10 teachers teaching English at Nguyen Duc Mau

High School and 44 students( class 10A5) at Nguyen Duc Mau high School

Method: The survey has been with the help of GOOGLE FORM

Contents: The survey focuses on two main issues:

1 For teachers

How do you currently prefer to engage with and learn about new topics in your classes?

2 For students:

How confident are your communicative skills?

Survey: Link to conduct the survey: https://forms.gle/hFN1GxeiZQcztAz86

❖ Question on Current Learning Preferences:

How do you currently prefer to help students engage with and learn about new topics in your classes?

This question aims to gather insights into students' preferred learning styles, helping to tailor the study's implementation to better match their preferences

❖ Question on Communication Skills Self-Assessment:

Link to do the survey: https://forms.gle/PPi7BFLXjDh1dx9T6

Trang 11

How confident are your communicative skills?

On a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being "Not Confident at All", 2 being not confident, 3 being neutral, 4 being confident and 5 being "Very Confident," please rate your confidence in your current communication skills, including expressing your ideas, listening actively to others, and participating in group discussions

This question is designed to assess students' self-perceived communication abilities, providing a baseline for evaluating the impact of the study on their communication skills

Results

These percentages represent the distribution of student responses across the confidence levels The majority of respondents (45,5%) expressed being " not Confident at all" in their communication skills An additional 34,1% indicated feeling " Not Confident." A smaller portion of respondents (9,1%) maintained a

"Neutral" stance, and 6,8 % reported “confident” and only 4,5% reported being

"Very Confident."

PART II: CONTENT OF THE RESEARCH 2.1 Theoretical basis

a Overview of existing literature on effective teaching strategies for 10th graders

The study titled "Some Effective Techniques to Help 10th Graders Get Familiar with Each Unit easily and Develop Communication Skills Through Getting Started" delves into the theoretical basis of effective teaching strategies tailored for 10th graders Drawing on existing literature, this research aims to contribute to the pedagogical discourse by synthesizing and applying proven methodologies that enhance both familiarity with course content and the development of crucial communication skills

One key theme that emerges from the literature is the significance of active engagement in the learning process As asserted by Johnson and Johnson (2014), collaborative learning environments promote deeper understanding and retention

of information The study by Smith et al (2016) reinforces this notion, emphasizing the positive impact of interactive approaches on students' ability to grasp complex concepts Thus, the incorporation of group activities and discussions into the teaching strategy is identified as a promising avenue for fostering a sense of familiarity with each academic unit

Furthermore, the literature underscores the importance of scaffolding techniques to support students in their learning journey According to Vygotsky's socio-cultural theory (1978), providing appropriate levels of support enables students to tackle tasks that would be challenging on their own This aligns with the findings of the study by Brown and Palincsar (1987), which advocates for the gradual release of responsibility from teacher to student Therefore, the teaching strategy should incorporate a scaffolded approach, guiding 10th graders through the initial stages of each unit to build confidence and competence

In addition to active engagement and scaffolding, literature highlights the role

of communication skills in academic success According to the research conducted by Anderson (2008), effective communication is a key factor in academic achievement and interpersonal development This supports the emphasis in the current study on integrating communication skill development within the teaching strategy Through activities that promote verbal expression, active listening, and peer collaboration, 10th graders can not only enhance their understanding of course content but also refine their communication abilities

In summary, the theoretical foundation for the study on effective teaching strategies for 10th graders emphasizes the value of active engagement, scaffolding, and communication skill development By integrating these elements, the proposed teaching strategy seeks to create a comprehensive and student-centered approach that addresses the unique needs of 10th-grade learners

b Review of studies related to techniques for familiarizing students with each unit

Trang 13

The review of studies related to techniques for familiarizing students with each unit reveals a multifaceted understanding of effective teaching strategies Researchers have explored various approaches that contribute to enhancing students' familiarity with course content, ensuring a solid foundation for subsequent learning experiences

One prominent theme in the literature is the use of advance organizers As highlighted by Ausubel (1960), providing students with a preview of the upcoming material before delving into detailed instruction can facilitate better comprehension and retention This aligns with the findings of the study conducted

by Davis and Pearce (2003), which demonstrated that the use of advance organizers positively influenced students' ability to connect new information with their existing knowledge Thus, incorporating advance organizers into the teaching strategy emerges as a valuable technique for familiarizing students with each unit

Additionally, the literature emphasizes the role of technology in creating engaging learning experiences The study by Clark and Mayer (2011) suggests that multimedia elements, such as videos and interactive presentations, can capture students' attention and enhance their understanding of complex concepts Leveraging technology to present unit content in an interactive and visually stimulating manner aligns with the contemporary learning preferences of students and contributes to a more immersive and familiarizing educational experience Furthermore, the concept of thematic teaching has gained attention in the literature The work of Jacobs (1989) advocates for organizing curriculum content around overarching themes, promoting a holistic understanding of each unit This approach encourages students to see the interconnectedness of topics and fosters a deeper engagement with the material Thus, incorporating thematic teaching into the teaching strategy provides a framework for familiarizing students with the content in a meaningful and contextualized manner

In summary, the literature on techniques for familiarizing students with each unit underscores the efficacy of advance organizers, technology integration, and thematic teaching By integrating these approaches into the teaching strategy, educators can create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that enhances students' familiarity with course content and lays the groundwork for successful academic experiences

2.2 Practical situation of the study

+ In regarding to advantages

At Nguyen Duc Mau High School, the practical situation preceding the implementation of the study, "Some Effective Techniques to Help 10th Graders at Nguyen Duc Mau High School Get Familiar with Each Unit and Develop Communication Skills Through Getting Started," reveals a supportive educational environment that can contribute to the success of the study Notably, the

Trang 14

dedication of teachers to the teaching process stands out as a significant advantage The commitment of educators to the academic growth and well-being

of their students creates a conducive atmosphere for the implementation of innovative teaching strategies Teachers' willingness to engage with and adapt to the proposed techniques is a crucial factor in the potential success of the study Furthermore, the support from school leaders adds another layer of advantage When school administrators endorse and facilitate the adoption of new teaching methodologies, it creates a unified front that encourages consistency and coherence in the learning experience The backing of school leaders can also contribute to the allocation of resources and time needed to implement the study effectively

The involvement of students' parents in the educational process is an additional advantage Parental support is instrumental in creating a collaborative triad involving teachers, school leaders, and families When parents are informed about and engaged in the study, it fosters a holistic approach to student development This collaborative effort enhances the likelihood of successful implementation by extending the impact of the study beyond the classroom and into the home environment

+ In regarding to disadvantages

On the other side, challenges exist within the practical situation at Nguyen Duc Mau High School that may pose obstacles to the study's implementation One such challenge is the potential difficulty students may face in communication skills If students exhibit weaknesses in verbal expression or active listening, the intended outcomes of the study, particularly the development of communication skills, may be hindered This could necessitate additional support and tailored interventions to address individual student needs

Moreover, a potential disadvantage may stem from students' limited prior knowledge about the topics presented in the textbook If the study assumes a certain baseline level of understanding that is not met by all students, it could lead

to disparities in the effectiveness of the proposed techniques Addressing these gaps in prior knowledge may require supplementary resources or differentiated instructional approaches to ensure equitable participation and comprehension among all students

In conclusion, while the supportive dedication of teachers, endorsement from school leaders, and involvement of parents provide a favorable foundation, challenges related to students' communication skills and varied levels of prior knowledge must be carefully considered and addressed in the practical implementation of the study at Nguyen Duc Mau High School
