+ Ngắt đường truyền mômen từ động cơ tới bánh xe trong những lúc cần thiết ( khi khởi động, sang số)

Gồm 4 trục quay, trên các trục quay có bánh răng và 1 ly hợp

- Nguyên lý làm việc:

+ Mômen quay truyền từ bánh răng có đường kính nhỏ đến bánh răng có đường kính lớn → vận tốc giảm và ngược lại

+ Muốn đảo chiều quay của trục lắp bánh xe → đảo chiều quay trục ra của hộp số → bánh trung gian lắp xen giữa cặp bánh răng có tốc độ thấp.

+ Phân phối mômen cho 2 bán trục của 2 bánh xe chủ động + Cho phép 2 bánh xe quay với vận tốc khác nhau khi ô tô chuyển động trên đường không bằng phẳng, không thẳng, khi quay vòng

- Cấu tạo:

+ Gồm 2 bánh răng hành tinh, 2 bánh răng bán trục Bánh răng bị động cũng tham gia tạo thành bộ

+ Giúp cho xe dễ dàng di chuyển

+ Các loại vi sai thuần cơ khí,

không có sự can thiệp của thiết bị

vi sai cũng là một nguyên nhân làm cho lốp xe dễ bị ăn mòn Nếu dòng xe nào có bộ vi sai cầu trước thì xe sẽ rất khó để điều khiển và di chuyển sẽ không được mượt mà
