II BODY DEVELOPMENT
1 BED RACING CHAMPIONSHIP
Trang 3The Bed Race was born out of the enthusiasm of the newly-formed Knaresborough
Round Table in 1965, which was looking for a major charity fundraising event It was considered as an extraordinary event and came up with the idea of a time trial in which teams would follow a pre-determined course pushing beds around the town The first race was in 1965, in Knaresborough, and only involved Army, Navy, and US Marines but now the competition is open to everyone
B Time and place
The Great Knaresborough Bed Race has been held every year since 1965, always on the second Saturday in June Every year the race is celebrated in many countries but the most famous place is Knaresborough For a long time, it hasn’t suffered any changes to its rules
C Rules
As a rule, each racing team consists of 5 people ( 4 runners and 1 number on the bed) Each team must provide its own bed, decorated in the theme for the year The bed runs on four wheels but also needs to be able to float They will set up a bed according to the rules of the competition (minimum size 1.75 x 0.75 m, maximum 3 x 1.35 m and maximum height 3 m; 4 wheels with diameter no more than 250 mm; life jacket ) over a distance of nearly 4 km from the town center
All team members must be at least 18 years old or have written signal
parental/guardian consent and a hold harmless waiver
- One person must stay on the bed at all times
Trang 4contact with the bed throughout the race Beds must be raced foot first.
-The start line will be at the crosswalk of the street At the sound of the starter, push the bed down to and around the far cone, returning to round the second cone
- After going around the far cone two times, then return to the starting line and go between the first two cones (the finish line) This will stop the time
- There will be a five-second penalty for each wheel that hits the cone or goes through or inside the painted area marked around the cone If all four wheels are penalized on one trip past the cone, the racers are disqualified
- Runners are responsible for maintaining an overall safe operation of propelling the bed and stopping their bed Operations deemed unsafe by the judges may be cause for disqualification
- Because of the need to start a new race every five minutes, the judges reserve the right to stop a team’s movement when over three and one-half minutes have elapsed
D Records
The record time achieved in the annual Knaresborough Bed Race (established 1966)
in North Yorkshire, UK is 12 min 9 sec for the 3.27-km (2.04-mile) course, crossing the River Nidd, by the Vibroplant team on 9 June 1990
E Meanings
Bed races work well as cancer fundraisers or for college groups looking to organize a fun event to raise funds

A.History
- The Dakar Rallywas launched in 1978 by a young and adventurous Frenchmen named Thierry Sabine In 1977, he got lost in the Libyan desert during the Abidjan-Nice Rally Fortunately, Thierry Sabine was not engulfed by sandstorms but was saved by the immense sand dunes in the desert Returning to France, the deep memories of the wild beauty in the desert are still imprinted in the memory of racing driver Thierry Sabine Along with like-minded friends, Thierry Sabine developed a plan for a road racing tournament, starting from Europe to Algiers, running through Agadez and finishing in Dakar That's why this race is named: Paris Dakar
- Since 1994, the routes had changed several times, so the event was commonly referred not as Paris-Dakar but just as The Dakar
B Time and place
- Time: The Dakar Rally was first held on December 26, 1978 After political instability and uncertainties in Africa forced the race to be canceled in 2008, organizers relocated to the event to South America In the following year, The Dakar Rally Race always takes place during the first month of the year It starts on January 6th and ends on January 17th
Trang 8182,10km journey to the mysterious destination of Dakar and explore the African continent Since 2009, due to security threats, the race has been moved to South America, in Argentina and Chile

do not need to be a rally-raid champion to take part The goal of the Dakar is to have both professionals and amateurs participating in the same rally and on the same route

-The race usually takes place continuously on 3 weekends Solidarity and flexibility
