Welcome to the fifth edition of the International Strategic Management Conference, hosted in the beautiful city of Stellenbosch, South Africa On behalf of the organizing committee, we extend our warmest greetings and appreciation to all participants.
This year's conference was organized in collaboration with Beykent University, Gebze High Technology Institute, and Çanakkale 18 Mart University, alongside the participation of Stellenbosch University from South Africa and Turkey's Ministry of Finance, Strategy Development Department We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all contributors for their support in making this event a success, with special thanks to Prof Johan Hough for his exceptional efforts in hosting the fifth conference in this beautiful university town at the far end of the world.
The 2009 conference is hosting 123 participants from 15 countries, featuring 83 reports predominantly authored by scientists from Europe, the Balkans, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and the USA The countries represented in the reports include Albania, Australia, Bosnia, and others, showcasing a diverse range of international contributions.
Herzegovina, Canada, France, Hungary, Iran, Lithuania, Russia, Kuwait, Pakistan, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom and USA
Due to a significant increase in attendees who reported but could not attend the conference because of long travel distances, a communicable influenza outbreak, and travel sickness, we have shortened the conference duration from two and a half days to two days This adjustment allows our guests ample time to explore the beautiful cities of Stellenbosch and Cape Town.
In our opening session, three esteemed scientists will discuss the impact of the global crisis on management strategies, addressing a pressing issue facing the world today This discussion will provide valuable insights into strategic management and offer solutions to current challenges.
Dear participants, ladies and gentlemen, while I welcome you again wish for our 5 th year conference to be accomplished and express best regards
Erol EREN (Ph.D) Conference Chairman Beykent University

FOREWORD Dear Guests, Dear Colleagues and Delegates from all over the world,
Welcome to the African continent and the prestigious fifth annual Strategy Conference, hosted by Stellenbosch University This significant international event, supported by four renowned universities, has established itself as a key date on the Global Academic Strategy calendar Allow me to provide a brief introduction to our university.
Stellenbosch University is one of South Africa's top four research universities, boasting a high percentage of postgraduate students, including nearly 10% international students Nestled in the scenic Jonkershoek Valley of the Western Cape Winelands, the university's history dates back to the 17th century with the establishment of regular school instruction It evolved through the founding of the Theological Seminary in 1859 and the Stellenbosch Gymnasium in 1866, eventually leading to the creation of Stellenbosch College in 1881, which became Victoria College in 1887 In 1918, Victoria College transitioned to an independent university, welcoming around 500 students and 39 lecturers Today, Stellenbosch University has grown into a prestigious institution with over 25,000 students, 800 lecturers, and approximately 50 research and service bodies.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Turkish Universities for their collaboration in organizing the conference on strategic management and sustainable strategies amidst turbulent and recessionary environments Special thanks to Jo Venter and her team at STIAS for providing excellent facilities for our delegates, as well as to the registration desk and organizing committee for their dedication We also appreciate our sponsors, McGraw-Hill South Africa and Distell Wines, whose contributions made this conference truly memorable We hope that the valuable insights shared during this event will enhance the international academic experience and positively impact the lives of ordinary citizens in our global community.
Johan HOUGH (Ph.D.) Co-Chairman of the Conference Stellenbosch University, South Africa
